Application Process

Step 1 – Apply for the Grad Program:
Complete your application form, and upload your resume, a cover letter and your latest academic transcript. Applications open on Monday 2 of March 2026 and close on the 30th ofMarch 2026.
Tips for your Application: Ensure you have answered all questions and uploaded all documents requested. If using AI to help you with your application, resume, etc. we recommend still tailoring any responses to ensure your application isn’t generic in our competitive process - Don’t be afraid to show us your personality; we want to get to know you!
Step Two –Online Assessment through Vervoe:
Our fantastic recruitment team reviewing each and every application to assess eligibility for the program.
If you are eligible for the program, you will be automatically sent an email invitation to complete an online questionnaire and scenarios through Vervoe. You will be provided more information in the invitation email if invited to complete this stage. The Vervoe assessment will close shortly after advert close so ensure you have completed your assessment before the deadline!
Tips for Vervoe: Read through each section thoroughly and be careful with AI use as we have tools in place to detect AI use. It’s also recommended to make sure you have set yourself up in a quiet and comfortable place so you can focus and engage with the content!
Step Three – Screening & Hiring Manager Review:
This stage happens in the background with the top candidates from the Vervoe assessment being sent to the Hiring panel for each stream. The hiring manager panel will then review these top candidates and determine who to progress to the next stage.
During this stage: While you wait for an update, do your research about Hydro Tasmania. From recreation sites to school education programs, plus cultural heritage conservation and significant projects like Battery of the Nation. Use your time effectively and learn more about the company.
Step Four – Online Assessment Centre:
If you are chosen to progress, we will contact you via phone to book you into one of our online assessment centre sessions.
There will be a two-week window to attend a session, and you will have the option to choose from either a morning or afternoon session, with each session running for around three hours.
Notify us in advance of any reasonable adjustments that you require during the assessment. These adjustments can help reduce or eliminate barriers so we can set you up for success.
Tips for the Online Assessment Centre: Find a quiet location and ensure that your internet and computer are functioning well prior to the online session. Make sure you read any email/comms from us thoroughly so you know what’s coming and can help yourself prepare adequately. Most importantly, be yourself and have fun in your session!
Step Five – 1:1 Interviews:
If you are successful in progressing past the online assessment you will be contacted for a 1:1 interview that will run for 45 minutes. The interview will be conducted by the hiring manager panel for their respective field/stream. Interview questions will be a mix of behavioural, competency and organisational culture-based questions. Interviews will be conducted in person if located nearby and online via Teams if not.
Tips for your Interview: Research standard behavioural interview questions and the STAR method to help think of examples your responses. Be yourself; we want to get to know who you are and what you can bring to the role and team!
Step Six – Background Checks and Offer:
Congratulations for making it to the final stage! Every candidate is required to go through a national police check, reference checks as well as verify working rights in Australia. Medical checks will also be completed for relevant streams (Engineering, Surveyor & Environmental).
Once all checks are completed, we will confirm offer details with you and send out the contract asap.
