Gabriel Tan
Commercial Graduate (2025)
Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics
Gabriel's Graduate Journey
Since joining the Graduate Programme in 2025, Gabriel has embraced opportunities to learn from different teams, markets, and perspectives. Having previously lived and worked across Singapore, Germany, and the United States, he values the exposure that comes from experiencing different cultures and ways of working.
For Gabriel, one of the most rewarding aspects of the programme has been the rotational structure. By bringing together different approaches and perspectives, graduates can develop a broader understanding of the industry and uncover new ways of solving challenges.
With a background in Quantitative Economics and prior experience analysing oil markets, Gabriel enjoys combining analytical thinking with commercial understanding. He is particularly interested in how data, market insights, and collaboration come together to support decision-making in a dynamic industry.
Looking ahead, Gabriel is excited to continue broadening his perspective, building relationships across the organisation, and developing a holistic understanding of the energy business through the opportunities the Graduate Programme provides.

Through internships across banking, consulting and shipping, I've had the opportunity to work on projects involving analytics, process improvement and financial analysis. These experiences have strengthened my interest in solving complex business challenges and contributing to dynamic industries.
I was attracted to the programme because it offers broad exposure across different areas of the business while providing opportunities to learn from experienced professionals. The chance to gain a deeper understanding of the energy sector and commodity markets, while developing both commercial and analytical skills, made it an exciting next step in my career.
I'm looking forward to gaining first-hand exposure to the energy markets and understanding how commercial decisions are made in a fast-paced, global environment. I'm also excited to collaborate with colleagues across different functions and learn from their diverse experiences and perspectives.
My experiences have helped me build a strong analytical foundation through working with data, financial analysis and business problem-solving. I enjoy breaking down complex challenges into actionable insights and working collaboratively with others to achieve the best outcomes. I'm also comfortable using tools such as Python, SQL, Tableau, Excel and financial data platforms to support decision-making.
The energy industry sits at the centre of economic development, global trade and the transition towards a more sustainable future. I am particularly interested in how energy and commodity markets impact businesses and societies and I wanted to build a career in an industry that combines commercial, analytical and strategic challenges with meaningful real-world impact.
My goal is to develop into a well-rounded commercial professional with a strong understanding of markets, risk and business strategy.
