Ultra Community OT provides person-centred occupational therapy services to children and adults with developmental, neurological, psychosocial and functional support needs, including NDIS participants.

Our team works collaboratively with clients, families, support coordinators, educators, support workers and other allied health professionals. We aim to improve each client’s independence, participation and quality of life through practical, evidence-informed interventions.

About the Role

We are seeking a patient, reliable, organised and compassionate Allied Health Assistant to join our team.

You will work under the delegation and clinical supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist, supporting clients to participate in prescribed occupational therapy activities and intervention programs. Services may be delivered in clinic, home, school and community settings.

This role may be suitable for:

• Applicants who have completed or are currently studying a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
• Current Occupational Therapy students
• Senior OT students seeking practical experience in paediatric, adult disability and NDIS services
• Applicants with experience in disability support, community services, education or support work

Remuneration

The pay rate is $30–$35 per hour

The final rate will be determined according to the applicant’s qualifications, experience, responsibilities and applicable Award classification.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver prescribed therapy activities under the delegation and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist
• Support clients to practise daily living, self-care and community participation skills
• Assist with fine motor, gross motor, sensory regulation, play and attention-based activities
• Provide one-to-one support to children and adults in accordance with goals established by the Occupational Therapist
• Prepare therapy materials, visual resources, activity equipment and other relevant items
• Observe and document each client’s performance, participation and response to activities
• Report progress, concerns and identified risks to the supervising Occupational Therapist
• Complete session notes, progress records and other required documentation accurately and on time
• Communicate professionally with clients, families, educators, support workers and other team members
• Work within the intervention plan and scope established by the Occupational Therapist
• Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, training and professional development
• Follow organisational policies, privacy requirements, workplace health and safety standards and relevant NDIS requirements

Scope of the AHA Role

The AHA will work under the delegation and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist.

The AHA is not responsible for:

• Independently conducting occupational therapy assessments
• Independently developing or changing therapy plans
• Providing independent clinical advice or diagnoses
• Independently completing Functional Capacity Assessments or formal occupational therapy reports
• Performing duties outside their training, competency or delegated scope

Essential Requirements

• Completed or currently studying a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, Occupational Therapy or another relevant allied health qualification
• Strong interest in occupational therapy, child development, disability or community-based services
• Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one
• Current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one
• Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one
• Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for community visits
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to follow clinical instructions, delegation and feedback from the supervising Occupational Therapist
• Ability to complete session notes and other documentation accurately and promptly
• Patience, reliability, professionalism and effective time-management skills
• Commitment to respecting each client’s privacy, choices, cultural background and rights

Desirable Attributes

• Completed or currently studying a Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance
• Current senior Occupational Therapy student
• Experience in paediatric, disability, mental health, education or NDIS services
• Experience supporting sensory activities, fine motor development, daily living skills or community participation
• Ability to communicate in a language other than English
• Strong activity-planning, resource-development and client-engagement skills
