2026/2027 Accounting & Audit Internship

Shape your future.
Ignite your potential.

At Grant Thornton, we’re committed to shaping better futures - starting with yours.

Our Vacation Program is designed for students who want real insight into professional life and a meaningful start to their career. Over 4 to 6 weeks, you will gain hands‑on experience working with teams across accounting, tax and advisory, supporting a wide range of complex and dynamic clients. It is an opportunity to see how your studies translate into real work and what life as a graduate at Grant Thornton could look like.

From day one, you will be supported through meaningful work, genuine mentorship and a culture that values what makes you different. You will gain exposure to real client challenges, develop practical skills and build confidence in a professional environment.

This is more than an internship. It is a chance to explore your potential, build capability and take the first step towards a career that feels truly remarkable.

What we offer you:

  • A full-time, paid opportunity to gain work experience over your university break
  • Exposure to real client work and projects with a social/community impact
  • A plethora social and networking opportunities
  • Receive mentoring and regular on-the-job feedback from your assigned buddy and coaching manager
  • A structured learning program to support the development of your technical skills and commercial acumen

Best of all, a successful vacationer experience could also fast-track you to a graduate offer!

Your opportunity

Start your accounting career in one of our core client teams:

  • Audit & Assurance
  • Private Enterprise

Audit & Assurance

Our Audit & Assurance team plays a vital role in adding value to a client’s organisation and providing confidence to investors, shareholders and the broader capital markets through the provisions of external audit and other assurance services to a wide range of clients.

Joining the Audit & Assurance team as a vacationer will see you:

  • work closely with your clients to understand how their business works and the industry in which they operate in
  • conduct process walkthroughs to understand the “typical” flow of a transaction
  • carry out audit fieldwork including transaction sampling, data analysis and controls testing
  • attending a stock-take on a client site to validate the existence and completeness of recorded inventories

Private Enterprise

Private businesses are the engine room of the Australian economy. They cover all sectors, employ millions of people and are key to Australia’s reputation for stable, quality goods and services both domestically and internationally.

Our Private Enterprise team helps its private clients make the right decisions for their business, their family and for themselves with advice that is holistic, practical and commercial.

As accountants and advisors, we help mid-sized businesses and family groups manage the complexity of their taxation and financial reporting, and then look forward to the big picture – growing their business, growing their wealth and planning for their future via succession or business sale. Our passion for understanding our clients’ businesses goes beyond addressing technical accounting issues to developing actionable growth recommendations.

Joining the Private Enterprise team as a vacationer will see you:

  • work closely with your clients to understand their business operations, structure, objectives and future plans
  • develop a strong foundation in your technical accounting knowledge by working on a range of accounting and tax compliance matters
  • preparing financial statements and tax returns
  • liaising with the ATO on behalf of your clients
  • compiling information and supporting the preparation of workpapers
  • providing support to the broader team on advisory engagements.
