Yarrabah is located in the bayside suburb of Aspendale. Yarrabah School caters for students from 2.8 to 18 years of age. Yarrabah School believes that all students can learn and experience success. A comprehensive and integrated curriculum is offered with flexibility to meet the needs of each student with disabilities.

As a result of our schools¿ values, our staff are motivated, dedicated and constantly involved in developing their own professional knowledge and skills. This promotes stability and harmony within the school, and consequently, the students are engaged.

 

Teachers who do not have an approved special education qualification but do have current provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching may apply. Preference will be given to applicants who have an approved special education qualification.

Where the vacancy was advertised as an ongoing position and an external applicant, who does not have an approved special education qualification, is selected, that person can only be offered fixed term employment for a period not exceeding 3 years.

 

Selection Criteria - Graduates

SC1    Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the capacity to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills. Demonstrated capacity to respond to student learning needs.

SC2    Demonstrated capacity to implement high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluate the impact of learning and teaching programs on student learning growth. 

SC3    Demonstrated capacity to monitor and assess student learning. Demonstrated capacity to use data to inform teaching practice and to provide feedback on student learning growth and achievement to students and parents.

SC4    Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated capacity to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues and the broader school community to support student learning, wellbeing and engagement.    

SC5    Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated capacity to reflect upon practice and engage in professional learning to continually improve the quality of teaching.
